(zdanie względne zawiera informację niezbędną do identyfikacji osoby, o której mówimy; nie zawiera przecinków);
The person (who) I spoke to had red hair.
(w tym przypadku możemy pominąć zaimek, gdyż odnosi się do dopełnienia, a nie do wykonawcy czynności jak w poprzednim zdaniu);
Have you got the money (which) I lent you?
(zaimek używany dla rzeczy i miejsc);
This is the teacher who / that shouted at me.
This is the teacher (who / that) I don’t like.
Where’s the newspaper which / that was on the table?
Where’s the newspaper (which / that) I left on the table?
(zamiast ‘who’ i ‘which’ możemy używać ‘that’);
This is the boy (who) I am going to the party with.
This is the boy with whom I am going to the party.
(druga wersja zdania jest możliwa, ale rzadziej używana i raczej zarezerwowana dla formalnych wypowiedzi);
This is the house where I was born.
(zaimek używany dla miejsc);
Are you the person whose dog is barking?
The house whose roof is red is mine.
(zaimek używany dla wyrażenia własności);
NON-DEFINIG RELATIVE CLAUSES
My younger brother, who is ten, is afraid of spiders.
(zdanie względne zawiera informację dodatkową o opisywanej osobie; oddzielone jest od reszty zdania przecinkami, myślnikami lub nawiasami);
His car, which broke down yesterday, is nearly ten years old.
(zaimek używany dla rzeczy; zaimki ‘who’ / ‘which’ nie mogą być pominięte ani zastąpione przez ‘that’);
Richard, whose father is Greek, speaks both Greek and English fluently.
(zaimek wyrażający własność);
I am going to Paris, where I first met Beth.
(zaimek określający miejsce);
